A Perfect Day To Dream

Iceland Dance Company premiered „A Perfect Day To Dream“ on september 30th 2011.

The piece is by Anton Lachky, who is a co-founder and member of the dance collectives Les Slovaks. The group is made out of five male dancers from Slovakia and is considered one of Europe´s leading dance groups. Les Slovaks performed the piece „Opening Night“ last spring at Reykjavík Arts Festival.

During this creation Anton worked with and utilized the individual character of each dancer but intertwines it with his own quirky and humorous style.

“Each dancer appears to me as a character from a cartoon animation. I try to see them the way they are but through my own eyes” Lachky said. “Another very important part of my work is the physical part, solidity and power of the body. Dancing and its beauty, in its simplicity and complexity. In this piece every scene represents a dream like situation. It feels like a surrealistic picture with many different stories and colours but still in one frame, hanging on the same wall.“

The music is Requim by Guiseppe Verdi which is considered one of his greatest masterpieces. Verdi bases Requim on Catholic (and Latin) mass text and covers human´s most deepest emotions, despair and joy, hope and destruction and finally eternal peace.

Sigrún Úlfarsdóttir designs the costumes but she has an extensive experience both in theater - and fashion design. She has worked with some of the biggest names in fashion such as Karl Lagerfeld, Swarowski and Hervé Léger. Sigrún has also designed opera costumes for the renowned Batadan theater in Paris.

The lighting designer is Aðalsteinn Stefánsson. He is a versatile artist who has worked with Iceland Dance Company for many years and uses his extensive experience and knowledge to work with the beautiful artform, the dance.

A Perfect Day To Dream is performed at the Large Stage in Reykjavík City Theatre and includes in total eight dancers.
